Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future
February was a vibrant month of creativity, community, and celebration at The DaySchool for Children. From hands-on learning to heart-filled storytelling, our classrooms came alive as we honored Black History Month—a time to remember, reflect, and rejoice in the legacy of excellence that continues to inspire us today.
Learning Through Legacy
Throughout the month, students across all age levels explored the lives and contributions of extraordinary Black figures whose impact continues to shape the world. In the Main School, students learned and performed the National Black Anthem during our Black History Celebration—a moment filled with pride, reverence, and unity.
Our young scholars also studied the inspiring stories of:
Louis Latimer, the inventive mind behind improvements to the light bulb
Madam C.J. Walker, the first self-made female millionaire in America
Garrett Morgan, who invented the traffic signal and the gas mask
In our Toddler School, students learned about Mark Dean, a pioneering figure in computer engineering. To celebrate his achievements, our littlest learners created their very own robot-themed art using stick-on activity sheets—combining creativity with discovery in the sweetest way!
Wisdom from Our Community
We were honored to welcome several special guest speakers from our DaySchool family who brought Black History to life in meaningful, personal ways:
Mr. Pedro Moore (Classroom B Parent) spoke to our Main School students about entrepreneurship
The Jones Family (Grandfather & Father from Class A1) shared stories of legacy and leadership in owning and operating West Electric
Dr. Sheree Hill-Manlove (Toddler & Class A2 Grandparent) read two heartwarming books—Penny The Little Prayer Warrior and Penny and Jayden—introducing our students to the power of prayer and spiritual strength
These rich experiences made the stories of Black excellence not only educational—but deeply personal and impactful for our students.
Together in Celebration
Our celebration would not have been possible without the ongoing support of our DaySchool Parent Society, whose dedication continues to enrich our school culture and create unforgettable moments for our students.
“Black History Month at The DaySchool is more than a celebration—it’s an affirmation. Our students are reminded that they come from a legacy of brilliance, courage, and faith. And that same spirit lives in them today.” – Dr. D
